This is unheard of in any other area of business, be it movie, entertainment, or even law firms and sport. What’s incredible is that YouTube has done exactly nothing to protect one of their biggest assets. Which sounds fair given how the entertainment attention has shifted to social media and especially YouTube. This is the amount of money that was used to pay for Hollywood actors. What yesterday had no value, now costs $100 million. Think about it, how much was Joe Rogan worth to YouTube? Not how much money was he able to make from the platform, but how much has YouTube been contracted to pay him to use their platform? It is nothing, $0. Isn’t it fascinating that Spotify would pay to pull a youtuber off the platform? Wasn’t it supposed to be a fun platform for free sharing of videos? It is a story of probably biggest asset misprice in history. We are pretending this is a new problem, which it isn’t as a quick check of history of printing press reveals.
